                                                                            Half-Life is a singleplayer and multiplayer FPS game in the Half-Life series developed by Valve and published by Sierra On-Line. The game uses GoldSrc, a heavily modified derivative of the Quake engine.

Half-Life released for Windows on November 19, 1998.^[2] Ports to OS X and Linux were released on February 14, 2013.^[3]

On November 17, 2023, to celebrate the game's 25th anniversary, an update was released which added new and previously exclusive content, as well as improving Steam Deck support.^[4] The update initially broke compatibility with modifications and other GoldSrc-based Valve games, but these issues were fixed in following patches.

Like most of Valve's library, Half-Life still receives bug fixes and general maintenance updates. It also enjoys a large community base, and various modifications are released regularly.
